Digital menus for pizzerias

A digital menu for a pizzeria is the list of pizzas, pastas and starters published as a web page that guests open with the QR code on the table. In a pizzeria the same pizza comes in sizes, bases and extras — and a paper menu either becomes unreadable or leaves things out.

Sizes, bases and extras without a giant table

Medium and family, thin and classic base, extra cheese, extra ham, no onion. On a digital menu each pizza has its sizes as options with their own prices, and extras as add-ons. Guests see the right price without doing sums from a table at the bottom of the page.

Spell out the toppings of every pizza. House names (“Chef’s pizza”, “Special”) tell first-time guests nothing, let alone visitors.

Gluten, milk and the rest

Nearly every pizza contains gluten (the base) and milk (the cheese). Many also contain fish (anchovy, tuna), molluscs or crustaceans (seafood pizza), nuts (pesto with pine nuts or walnuts) or mustard. If you offer a gluten-free base, say whether it is baked in the same oven — it is the question a coeliac guest will ask.

Start with the allergen chart and see the allergen guide for what the law requires.

Translating an Italian menu in Portugal

A pizzeria in Portugal often writes names in Italian and descriptions in Portuguese, and serves guests who read English or French. Keep the pizza name as it is and translate the toppings — see how in the menu translation guide.
